    Exchange Online Migration

    QU's Information Technology Services is migrating all staff and faculty members to Exchange Online Office 365 email, increasing storage capacity to 100 GB, and providing enhanced collaboration tools. The migration process will start on June 4, 2023, and last until the end of September 2023, with seamless access to emails, calendars, and contacts via the Outlook web app or desktop client. Mobile devices will require reconfiguration using the recommended Outlook mobile app or email client.

    What is Exchange Online?

     Exchange Online is a cloud-based email and collaboration service provided by Microsoft. It allows you to access your emails, calendars, contacts, and tasks from anywhere using a web browser or a supported email client.

    Why am I being migrated to Exchange Online?

    The migration to Exchange Online is being undertaken to enhance the reliability, security, and scalability of your email services. It will provide you with advanced features, improved collaboration, and a more seamless email experience.

    How will the migration to Exchange Online affect me?

     The migration to Exchange Online will have several benefits for you. You will experience improved email performance, enhanced security measures to protect your data, and increased mailbox storage capacity. Additionally, you will gain access to a range of advanced collaboration tools.

    Will I lose any of my existing emails or data during the migration?

    No, your existing emails, contacts, and calendar data will be seamlessly transferred to Exchange Online during the migration process. You will not lose any of your data, and all your information will be available in your new Exchange Online mailbox.

    Can I still access my emails using my current email client?

     Yes, you can continue using your current email client, such as Outlook, mobile client such as IOS native mail client, Gmail in android to access your emails after the migration. Exchange Online is compatible with most popular email clients and can be configured to work seamlessly with them.

    How can I access my emails from a web browser?

     To access your emails from a web browser, simply open any supported web browser and visit the Exchange Online website https://outlook.office.com. Sign in with your email credentials, and you will have full access to your emails, calendar, and other features.

    Will the migration affect my mobile device's email settings?

     Yes. You need to reconfigure your email account settings on your mobile device. Detailed instructions have provided here to guide you through this process if required.

    What should I do if I lose my contacts after the migration?

    If you notice that your contacts are missing after the migration, it is likely that your email account has become disconnected from the Exchange on-premises server. To restore your contacts, follow these steps:

    • Delete the email account from your email client or device.
    • Configure the email account again using the provided instructions (click here) or settings for Exchange Online.
    • Once the account is set up again, give it some time to sync with Exchange Online.
    • After the synchronization is complete, your contacts should be restored and available in your email client or device.

    After restarting Outlook, why does it still show as disconnected?

    If you have restarted Outlook and it continues to display a disconnected status, it may be due to an issue with the saved credentials or authentication. To resolve this, follow these steps:

    • After restarting Outlook, wait for it to prompt you for credentials.
    • Instead of selecting the default credential or allowing automatic sign-in, choose the option "Sign in with another account."
    • Enter your credentials using the following format:
      • Email/Username: <username>@qu.edu.qa
      • Password: [Your password]
