    Reading Workshop Courses



    The Reading Workshop is a two-level focused reading-skills development course that provides Foundation Program students with the skills and strategies needed to become efficient readers.  The course focuses on the development of reading skills and strategies which can be applied in the students’ future university studies.

    Elementary

    Prerequisites: ACCUPLACER APRS Score of 0-62

    Course Textbook (Required): Reading Explorer 1 & Reading Explorer 2 (1st Ed.). Boston: Heinle.

    Course Description

    Each class is comprised of a series of short activities, including teacher-guided intensive reading, fluency training, and vocabulary expansion activities. The assessments for the course will be both formative (through vocabulary notebooks, graphic organizer and critical thinking notebooks, in-class vocabulary and comprehension quizzes, graded reading quizzes, etc.), as well as summative (through the mid-term and final exams).
