    PharmD Program Study Plans

The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program offers two study plans for pharmacists interested in pursuing an advanced degree in clinical pharmacy.  Didactic courses are coordinated by Clinical Pharmacy & Practice Department faculty. Internship courses are undertaken under the mentorship of clinical pharmacy preceptors and cross-appointed faculty from the Clinical Pharmacy & Practice Department with the support of the program director. Student performance is evaluated in accordance with college policies and procedures.

    Full-time Study Plan

The full-time study plan is intended for Qatar University (QU) College of Pharmacy Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPharm) graduates. The PharmD program requires completion of 36 credit hours, which is comprised of 32 credit hours of experiential training and 4 credit hours of didactic coursework (FT study plan). These courses represent an extension of existing course series offered by the Qatar University BScPharm program with advanced learning objectives reflecting the higher performance expectation of a graduate of a PharmD degree program.  Applicants accepted into the full-time study plan are expected to complete the courses in one year.

QU BScPharm graduates who have graduated more than 5 years from the BScPharm program and who do not have pharmacy practice experience will be required to undergo a bridge course assessment for entry to the PharmD program.

    Part-time Study Plan

The part-time study plan is intended for pharmacists who have received a bachelor of pharmacy degree from an accredited pharmacy program outside of Qatar.  This study plan offers flexibility for pharmacists who are interested in attaining an advanced clinical degree while continuing to practice pharmacy.

Applicants who have successfully passed the application and interview process will undergo a bridge course assessment to ensure the knowledge and skills gained from the applicant’s bachelor of pharmacy program meets the learning outcomes necessary for entry to the PharmD program.  The results of the bridge course assessment will allow the PharmD program to tailor the bridge courses to meet each student’s individual learning needs.

The part-time PharmD study plan includes 20 credit hours of bridge courses which are qualifying courses for entry to the PharmD program (PT study plan) . The PharmD program requires completion of 36 credit hours, which is comprised of 32 credit hours of experiential training and 4 credit hours of didactic coursework (FT study plan).

Applicants accepted into the part-time study plan will have a maximum of 2 years to complete the bridge courses.  The bridge courses use a blended learning approach that encourages independent self-study for online course content and in-person sessions to build upon the knowledge and skills necessary for advanced pharmacy practice using active learning strategies. Upon successful completion of the bridge courses, students will enter the PharmD program and will have a maximum of 2 years to complete these courses.
