    Course Description

    This course is designed for students who require a review of elementary algebra before taking further university mathematics courses. The course provides students with the basic skills about mathematical operations of real numbers, linear and quadratic equations and their graphs, linear and quadratic inequalities and their graphs, polynomials, factoring, rational expressions, and radicals.

     

    Course Objectives:

    Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

    1. Perform the order of operations involving real numbers.
    2. Demonstrate the ability to simplify rational and radical expressions.
    3. Learn polynomials, properties of polynomials and their factorization.
    4. Introduce rational and radical expressions.
    5. Learn linear equations and linear inequalities and attain the ability to graph them.
    6. Demonstrate the ability to solve quadratic and radical equations.
    7. Learn absolute value equations and inequalities and attain the ability to graph them.

     

    Learning Outcomes:

    Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

    • Transform basic and simple statements into algebraic expressions.
    • Perform all types of arithmetic operations on real numbers.
    • Perform basic operations on polynomials, rational expressions and radicals.
    • Solve linear, quadratic, rational and radical equations.
    • Solve equations and inequalities involving absolute value.
    • Demonstrate the use of graphing techniques for linear equations and inequalities.
    • Work independently and collaboratively.
