    Arabic for Non Native Speakers

    The Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center – Languages, Communication, and Translation Cluster, College of Arts and Sciences– is a specialized language center that offers certificates of completion to international students whose mother tongue is not Arabic.

    Every year the center offers six language levels from Beginners I up to Advanced II. Applicants can be enrolled as full-fee paying students or nominees from educational or cultural institutions that have signed agreements with Qatar University.
    Since its establishment, the Center has been a major platform for achieving the university's goals in promoting the Arabic language, building strong academic, cultural, and research relations with various educational institutions, and improving cooperation with its regional and international partners. The ANNS Center has signed more than 30 agreements and MoUs with various international universities and annually enrolls a number of nominees from these universities on a scholarship basis. The fact that provides Qatar University with the opportunity to maintain its high position among the top universities in the world (according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings).

    All applicants to the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center who meet the following minimum criteria will be qualified for applying to to the ANNS program:

    1. Must have a minimum of a high school diploma. (University graduates are preferred).
    2. Must be between 18 and 40 years of age.
    3. Was not granted a scholarship to study in Arabic for the Non-Native Speakers Center previously.
    4. Priority is given to applicants with at least basic knowledge of the Arabic language (knowledge of the Arabic alphabet and basics of reading and writing).
    5. Applicants to the ANNS Center should be able to communicate either in English or Arabic with the administration of the university and the university community.

    All applicants to the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center are required to submit online admission application

    • Start creating your account with a username and password. Keep the username and password for future use
    • Upload required documents through the Admissions Login (qu.edu.qa) before the admission deadline.
    • Submit QR 50/-, ANNS admission application fee as part of your online admission application.

    NOTES:

    • All applicants to the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center are required to submit QR 50/-, (non-refundable) application fee as part of their admission application. Admission applications will not be considered complete, and consequently, an admission decision will not be made, until the application fee is submitted through the online Admission Application using Visa or Master Cards only.
    • Any application or documents will NOT be considered after the deadline

    Scholarship admission (only for applicants from outside Qatar)

    • Organizational nominees (organizations that have signed agreements with Qatar University annually nominate a certain number of students to the ANNS center)
    • QFFD nominees (Qatar Fund for Development offers a number of scholarships for international applicants from developing countries to study at the ANNS center)

    Getting this scholarship is highly competitive; the acceptance is subject to the number of applicants and the number of available scholarships.

    Scholarship benefits

    Paying admission without scholarship (for applicants from inside and outside Qatar).

    Admission to ANNS program as a scholarship student is very competitive, whilst the interested applicants can apply to this program as non-scholarship students (paying students). In this scheme, Qatar University will provide the paying student with a student visa if the applicant fulfills the student visa conditions in addition to the admission conditions. The student will be responsible for his entire academic and living expenses during his/her study at Qatar University.
    All non-scholarship students (paying students) must apply for the student visa under the university sponsorship and upload therequired documents within the given timeline.

    Cost of study & living

    • Tuition: 1400.00 Qatari Riyals = $384.00 per credit hour. (student should register a minimum of 11 credit hours per term)
    • Room and board: Students have the choice of either to stay:
      • In the University dorms: by paying the housing fees (includes a room with double occupancy, 3 meals, and transportation to and from the campus, limited spaces are available in the University dorms and such rooms are subject to availability).

    OR:

      • Students can also rent their own apartments in Doha and provide their own transportation. The estimated average cost to do so is $2000 per month, which usually covers accommodation and transportation. Please note that the provided cost is a rough estimate of the cost of living in Doha. However, rents in Doha vary based on location and level of finishing.

    Note: 1 US $ ≈ 3.65 Qatari Riyals.

    1. Upload the following documents through the online application

      1. Attested copy of the highest attained academic credentials, (Final transcript or course completion certificate with following criteria)
        • The academic credentials must be for the highest attained academic degree, transcript or certificate that you already graduated.
        • Transcript of current ongoing degree is not acceptable
        • The certificate or transcript must be accompanied by Arabic or English translation if it is not in one of the two languages.

      Transcript or certificate attestation requirements:

            • No further attestations are required if the transcripts or certificates are issued from USA and UK universities as it should be final, official and enclosed in a sealed envelope by the registrar's office. Meanwhile, the high school certificates or transcripts should meet the attestation requirements mentioned below.

      Transcripts or certificates issued from High schools from around the world  OR Universities from out of USA and UK should meet the attestation requirements mentioned below:

            • Must be certified by either the Ministry of Education and Higher Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Qatar Embassy (or any GCC Embassy if Qatar Embassy is not available) for the country in which the certificate is issued.
            • If attestation from Qatar or GCC Embassies are not available, the same can be from any Arab country's Embassy for the country in which the certificate is issued.
            • Residents / Expatriates in Qatar can certify their transcripts through their countries’ embassy available in Qatar.  
            • An Arabic or English translation must accompany the transcript if it is issued in a language other than Arabic or English.

      Note: Qatar University has the right to ask for extra attestations if needed. 

      1. Resume / C.V. (Curriculum Vitae) should include the applicant's personal and academic details with contact details, mobile number with country code and email address.
      2. Passport copy, valid for 1 year, need a copy of the page/s that holds the following information: your photo and information, and the passport expiry date.
      3. Recommendation Letter from a well-known person or organization, (such as your professor, religious or educational institution) describing the reason for nominating you to study in Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center. It should be issued recently within one month prior to applying to this program. Self-nomination letters are not acceptable.
      4. Personal Photo (1 copy), passport size.

      NOTES:

      1. Upload the scanned clear copies of the aforementioned documents in PDF format. Picture of the documents taken by a mobile phone is not accepted.
      2. Any application or documents will NOT be considered after the given deadline.
      3. Uploading the required documents AND paying the application fees doesn't secure your acceptance in the center; applying to the ANNS Center is highly competitive and the admission subjects to the number of applicants and available scholarships.
      4. In case that one or more of the required official documents are missing, the student's application will be rejected.

    The Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center Policies

    1. The Arabic for Non-Native Speakers center seeks to build bridges of cultural communication between the State of Qatar and people of diverse nationalities and is based on the principle of tolerance, openness and respect for others. Any student whose acts would lead to a distortion of this mission will be subject to accountability and the law will be applied.
    2. The duration is one academic year that is comprised of 2 terms, fall and spring.
    3. Arrival in Qatar should be two weeks ahead of the beginning of the semester.
    4. Adherence to attend the Orientation events organized by Qatar University.
    5. The nominated student cannot postpone his scholarship to the following academic year; however the student may apply again in the following year.
    6. The scholarship student deserves a return air ticket only after his courses completion.
    7. Student is not allowed to collect money from any charity agency or others in Qatar under any circumstances. Student who violates this policy, will be dismissed from the center.
    8. Student who acquired a short scholarship to study in the Arabic center, must adhere to the rules and regulations of Qatar University, including dormitories and the Arabic center; also must attend the center classes regularly to guarantee the student success and to receive a certificate of completing the program. Student who violates one the following policies may result in canceling the scholarship and the residence permit under the university residence sponsorship, and the student will be dismissed from the center:
      1. Student's absence exceeds 25% in one semester without a permission or valid reason, i.e. doctor's note; although the University will not provide a return ticket, the student would bear all associated charges to leave the university and the country.
      2. In case of student's withdrawal during the academic year without a valid reason, the University will not provide a return ticket; so the student would bear all charges associated to the withdrawal and leaving the country. Granted organizations (Universities, embassies, NGOs, etc.) who request withdraw of one of their students within the Academic year, should provide the student with a return expenses including the ticket and all associated fees towards Qatar University.
      3. Student could not pass the first primary level in the first semester, or failed in all registered classes in one semester, Qatar University will provide the student with a return ticket to his country.
    9. Paying Fee student in the center must adhere to the rules and regulations of Qatar University and the center, also commit to attend the center regularly to guarantee student success and to receive a certificate of completing the program. Student who violates one of the following policies will be dismissed from the center. Violated student who has a student visa under the university residence sponsorship, should bear all charges associated to withdraw the university, cancel the residence permit and leave the State of Qatar within 5 days:
      1. Student's absence exceeds 25% in one semester without a permission or valid reason, i.e. doctor's note.
      2. Student's withdrawal during the academic year without a valid reason.
      3. Student could not pass the first primary level in the first semester, or failed in all registered classes in one semester.
