    How to choose an External Examiner

    While selecting a potential external reviewer for Master candidate’s thesis, the following principles will be applied:

    • the external examiner shall not have published any paper, co-supervise any student or ask for any grants with the supervisor over the five years preceding the thesis defense;
    • the candidate shall not have published any paper with the external examiner;
    • the external examiner shall not have assisted in the writing of thesis;
    • the external examiner shall not be the candidate’s friend;
    • preferably, the external examiner will show some experience in thesis supervision;
    • the external examiner will have some recent publications which will be reflecting his other experience and activity in research;
    • the external examiner and supervisor should not graduate from the same Ph.D. program nor have the same supervisor or co-supervisor. 
    • there will be an obvious link between the external examiner expertise and the thesis topic.
