    About us

    QUEMTA is a unique initiative in the State of Qatar was established in 2012 in collaboration between the National Center for Educational Development (NCED) at the College of Education-Qatar University and ExxonMobil - Qatar as one of the long-standing initiatives to promote education development in the State of Qatar.

    QUEMTA aims to raise the bar in Math and Science Education for elementary and preparatory schools. Moreover, it fosters development, advancement, and innovation at the heart of Qatar’s national vision.

    QUEMTA is held during the month of November annually. The academy alternates and targets approximately Forty to fifty teachers from elementary and preparatory schools every year respectively for Math and Science. Teachers are invited from across Qatari public schools to attend an intensive 5 days professional development program. Participating teachers are led to build their expertise in facilitating students' learning through problem solving and inquiry through Mathematics and Science integration. Great emphasis is directed on planning all lessons using the 5Es (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, Evaluate) inquiry based strategy, in addition to note taking practice as well.

    Our Objectives

    QUEMTA enables teachers to:

    • Build expertise in implementation of student centered teaching.

    • Deepen understanding of math and science content at the elementary and prep levels.

    • Integrate Math and Science to support students’ learning.

    • Recognize how students learn and apply their knowledge in the classroom.

    • Build professional learning communities to exchange experiences in mathematics and science teaching.

    Science and Math teachers for primary and preparatory levels.

    Events

    Forum of Qatar University  ExxonMobil Teachers Academy

    The National Center for Educational Development at Qatar University holds an annual Forum for teachers who receive training at the Academy to meet and exchange experiences in the following areas:

    • Designing activities based on the strategies put forward at the Academy.

    • The implementation and impact of taught activities at the Academy on students' learning.

    • Sharing and displaying success stories in implementing activities from the Academy.
