    I would like to welcome visitors of the Research and Graduate Studies website at Qatar University. The Research and Graduate Sector is responsible for planning and managing research according to Qatar University's strategic plan, which is based on national research priorities in the fields of energy, environment, society, health, and technology. The Sector also supports the University's quest towards excellence in research and education, and contributes to Qatar's National Vision (QNV) and development based on sustainability and knowledge.

    The University conducts selected interdisciplinary projects and research that correspond to the reality of the community and its needs, keep pace with changes, and find successful solutions to problems and requirements. The graduate studies provide excellent academic teaching and training, and advanced programs that develop the talents of students, refine their skills and help prepare qualified cadres in selected research areas.

    We are strengthening our infrastructure and facilities, increasing grants, funding and encouraging youth, attracting experiences, supporting marketing, communication and organization of various activities and events. Our priorities include issuing genuine publications and establishing internal and external partnerships, protecting academic freedom and intellectual property, and highlighting the brand of the University and its support for society.

    We adopt the periodic review of strategic plans and policies, keen on evaluation transparency and accuracy. We will continue to do whatever we can to help Qatar University remain an eye- catching national and academic pride.

    Professor Mariam Al-Ali Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies was the founder and Director of Center for Advanced Materials at Qatar University (QU) and Founder of the Master's program in Materials Science and Technology at QU. She received a doctorate in Physics (Materials Science) from the University of Alexandria, Egypt in 2001 and joined the Department of Physics at QU in the same year. Prof. Mariam has a long experience and international recognition in the field of polymers and characterization as well as in the field of nanocomposites technologies and nanotechnology expertise. She has more than 150 research papers in international journals and conferences apart from a series of book chapters, books and patents. Prof. Mariam has many research grants and she is the lead principal investigator in several projects with a number of universities and institutions around the globe and national and international companies. She is an active member of distinguished associations in the field of science and administration.

    She has taught several courses at the graduate and postgraduate level in addition to supervising many graduate dissertations at Qatar University and other international universities. Prof. Mariam had many consultations and presented several workshops for a variety of organizations such as the industries, the Ministries and society. She chaired several conferences, was invited as keynote speaker to several international conferences and was member of several committees in the country and abroad. Prof. Mariam has also worked as a reviewer for many scientific journals and conferences.

    Among the awards received by Prof. Mariam are the State Prize in Physics in 2010, Plastic Excellence Award from the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association in 2014, and Leadership Excellence Award for Women from the Conference and Exhibition of Engineering for the Middle East in 2015. She is also a leading member of the Albairaq team that won the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Award in 2015. In 2016, she received the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Prize in Technology.
