    Prof. Muftah El-Naas

    Prof. Muftah El-Naas is a Research Professor at the Gas Processing Center, College of Engineering, where he has also held the positions of QAFCO Chair in Chemical Process Engineering and Director of the Center. Prior to joining Qatar University, he served as Chair of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department, Director of the Petroleum Science and Engineering Graduate Program, and Director of Research Funding at UAE University. He earned a B.A.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and both an M.Eng. and PhD in Chemical Engineering from McGill University, Canada.

    Prof. El-Naas has authored over 200 papers in international journals and conferences, along with two books, several book chapters, and multiple patents and patent applications. His expertise spans CO2 capture and sequestration, biotechnology, water treatment and purification, and plasma technology. Recently, his research has focused on developing new, environmentally friendly technologies for the oil and gas industry, working closely with industry partners to develop patented technologies in CO2 capture and water purification.

    Prof. El-Naas is a member of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and a senior member of the Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society. He has received several awards, including the UAE University College of Engineering Best Performance Award for Excellence in Scholarship for two years and the Asian Education Leadership Award in Chemical Engineering for two years. Most recently, he was honored with the Qatar University Excellence in Research Award in Science and Engineering in 2023.
