    Honorary Doctorate


     

    Qatar University’s core educational values are best exemplified by embracing renowned achievements of individuals of extraordinary impact to the nation, the region and the world.  The University’s highest honor “Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy” is conferred on individuals with such extraordinary contributions.

    Qatar University remains dedicated to being recognized for high-quality education and research and for being a leader of economic and social development.  Honoring extraordinary contributions to a specific field or society in general is one way in which the university can demonstrate its commitment to realizing this vision.  Recipients of an Honorary Doctorate serve as important role models for students, faculty, and the broader QU community. Furthermore, the accomplishments and/or contributions that are honored reflect the University’s values and priorities.     

    Honorary Doctorate degrees are awarded to individuals who merit special recognition for outstanding leadership and/or achievement in a field consistent with the University’s values. Such distinction may be in areas such as research, scholarship, education, artistic creation, social activism, human rights, innovation or invention beneficial to society, and humanitarian outreach. Honorary Doctorates are granted on a selective basis and do not require the completion of degree requirements. 


    QU’s first Honorary Doctorate was awarded to Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a PhD Hooding Ceremony at Ibn Khaldoun Hall on December 2nd , 2015.
