Dr. Mohammed Alsafran is the Director of Agricultural Research Station in Qatar University. He is a Qatari scientist who graduated from Newcastle University in the UK and currently works as an assistant professor of agriculture, food, and environmental development in the Biological & Environmental Department at Qatar University. Since January (2017) to January (2018), he had been the Head of the Biological & Environmental Sciences Department. He taught several courses such as Basic Ecology, Desert Biology, Biology II, Cell & Tissue Culture and Crop production. Dr. Alsafran’s research interest includes Sustainable Dryland Agriculture, Plant Stress Physiology, Biodiversity and Ecosystems. Improving food security/safety and elucidation of mechanisms of environmental stress tolerance in plants is the focus of his research. Currently, he is involved in research related to the use of plants and phytochemistry in finding preventions and cures for cancer. Dr. Alsafran has many scientific researches published internationally in his field of specialization as well as he has strongly participated in many research projects grants as Principle Investigator or Co-Principle Investigator. Dr. Alsafran as an acting Head of the CLU has an essential role in supervising and guiding various analysis tasks relevant to the proposed research, including but not limited to the ICP (MS/OES), NMR, SEM, TEM, TGA, DSC, GC, IC, UPLC, LC/MSMS, FTIR, TOC/TN and Raman Spectroscopy.
