Professor Husam Younes is a pharmacist by training and obtained his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in 2003. Before starting his Ph.D. and after finishing his MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology, he worked as a Technical Manager in the Pharmaceutical Industry. In January of 2003, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the School of Pharmacy, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Canada. Dr. Younes worked as a senior consultant to the Newfoundland Health Department in Canada. He also served on the Panel of Examiners of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada between 2003-2007. In August 2007, Dr. Younes moved to Qatar to start his new career as the Founding Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences Section in the new Canadian Accredited Pharmacy Program at Qatar University. Since then, and in addition to his significant contributions in establishing the new College of Pharmacy, Dr. Younes served on many University committees and task forces. In 2011 he was awarded the prestigious Qatar University Merit Award for Outstanding Faculty Member. In 2016, Dr. Younes served as the founding Director of Research Planning & Development at the office of Vice President For Research & Graduate Studies (VPRGS) and led the development of QU Transformational Research Strategy 2018-2022. Since 2018, besides his research work, he has been acting as an advisor to the VPRGS.
Prof. Younes’s primary research interests are nanopharmaceuticals, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and targeted delivery of therapeutic proteins in cancer therapy. His research was funded by the National Sciences & Engineering Research Council in Canada (NSERC) and the National Priority Research Program (NPRP) in Qatar with 4.5 Million dollars. His research discoveries have been documented in numerous patents, peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, conference presentations, and abstracts. Dr. Younes supervised many graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and undergraduate research students.
