The Master of Education in Special Education (MSPED) is the only graduate program within the Department of Psychological Sciences of the College of Education at Qatar University. The MSPED Program prepares leaders in the field of Special Education for Qatar in two specialized areas: 1) Teaching Students with Mild and Moderate Disabilities and 2) Teaching Students with Severe and Profound Disabilities. Graduates from the program are prepared to serve as leaders in a variety of settings in Qatar and beyond, including independent schools, special schools, hospital schools, government and private educational agencies, and international organizations. The MSPED Program is benchmarked to Qatar National Professional Standards for teachers and school leaders and guided by the standards of The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the largest international professional association in special education. The program is comprehensive in that it covers all the basics of special education in addition to all categories mild, moderate and severe disabilities. The program offers two tracks, for the current time only the mild / moderate track is offered due to the high demand by the ministry of education and higher education and the number of applicants. The two tracks consist of 33 credit hours and provide a strong theoretical and professional background with all basics covered through the 9 courses offered, furthermore, research design and writing is stressed through the whole program to prepare graduates for any future positions in the field. The special education program consists of: * 27 hours as Major Requirement Courses * 6 hours of internship The internship part provides a field-based experience designed to develop program competencies with many requirements geared to reflect all program. The main instruction language is Arabic.
