    Head of Department's Message

Department of Public Health | Qatar University - Image1Welcome to the Department of Public Health. If you care about the health and well-being of your community and population, then you are in the right place!

The COVID-19 global pandemic has focused a spotlight on the crucial role of Public Health in protecting and improving populations’ health. Qatar has been a model for COVID-19 prevention and control, ranking among the countries with the lowest COVID-19 mortality rates worldwide. Qatar has placed Public Health on top of its priorities, aligned with contemporary global health issues and the nation’s health needs. Indeed, with the pandemic and hosting of the FIFA World Cup, there has never been a greater need for a strong public health system and public health specialists.

The Department of Public Health is proud to contribute to the country’s Public Health efforts by graduating qualified undergraduate and graduate students who are trained in the core competencies of public health, including biostatistics, epidemiology, research, health promotion, health communication, environmental health, and health policy in a student-centered environment. Experiential learning and on-site training are core components of the program. The Department offers Bachelor and Master degrees in Public Health (B.Sc. and MPH) and Minor in Public Health for non-public health students. In the B.Sc. program, students can choose one of two concentrations: Health Education or Health Management. The Department offers two concentrations in the MPH program: Epidemiology and Health Promotion.

Located in a dynamic, fast-growing, and Public Health promoting environment, the DPH delivers high-quality and high-impact coursework within an excellent facility, where students enjoy plenty of resources supporting competent public health graduates. The program is supported by accomplished and experienced faculty who are active in research projects nationally and internationally, where the students have the opportunity to work with eminent experts in the field and contribute to global health issues.

A public health career is rewarding; it enables individuals to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities and health systems and contribute to addressing global crises.
