The conference aims to convene leading experts from various parts of the world, to share insights on the latest Nutrition research and most effective practices in the field to tackle metabolic diseases, with particular attention to pediatric patients. Participants will have the chance to take part in insightful discussions, establish valuable connections with colleagues, and discover the latest tools and technologies to advance the management of pediatric metabolic disorders.

Conference Objectives

The objectives of the conference are directed towards the nutrition management of prevalent metabolic diseases in Qatar and the Middle East & North African (MENA) region. Accordingly, the theme for this conference is "Emerging Insights into Nutrition in Pediatric Metabolic Disease". The topics will address non-communicable diseases related to diet and lifestyle (obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, liver and kidney diseases, cancers and others), inborn metabolic and behavioral diseases, and undernutrition in the pediatric population.

Key Topics and Discussions

Area 1: Diet-Induced Metabolic Diseases in the Pediatric population: Prevention and Management.

The area of pediatric nutrition to prevent and treat diseases related to diet will cover a broad range of interventions and approaches addressing:

1. Nutritional deficiencies including protein-energy malnutrition, iron-deficiencies, vitamin D deficiency, and iodine deficiency.
2. Obesity and weight management including developing and implementing dietary and lifestyle modification programs to prevent or treat obesity in children and adolescents.
3. Food allergies and intolerances including diagnosing and managing food allergies and intolerances in infants and children, including providing education and guidance on alternative sources of nutrients.
4. Chronic diseases related to diet, including developing and implementing dietary and lifestyle modification programs to address diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, liver and kidneys diseases, some cancers, among others.

Area 2: Behavioral and Inborn Metabolic Disorders in the Pediatric population: Screening and Management

The area of screening and management of behavioral and inborn metabolic diseases among pediatric patients will include a range of interventions and strategies addressing:

1. Disordered eating, including identifying and treating in the pediatric population picky-eating disorders, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, orthorexia and binge eating disorder.
2. Behavioral and developmental disorders, including identifying and addressing dietary and lifestyle factors that may contribute to behavioral and developmental disorders in children, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or autism spectrum disorder.
3. Inborn errors of Metabolism, including the multidisciplinary specialized medical care comprising dietary modifications, medications, enzyme replacement therapies, gene therapies, and supportive care for patients and families.

This conference is an Accredited group learning activity (Category 1) as defined by the Ministry of Public Health's Department of Healthcare Professions—Accreditation Section (DHP—AS) and is approved for a maximum number of 10 Hours.
