    Winter Internship with GLS


    Introduction

    Graduate Learning Support (GLS) in the Office of Graduate Studies is dedicated to supporting the development of academic writing and research skills among graduate students. In addition, GLS seeks to cultivate a strong sense of graduate community and a positive graduate experience. To support these aims, GLS is offering a winter internship entitled Foundations of Thesis Writing- EN.

    Program Overview

    Foundations of Thesis Writing is designed to provide a strong understanding of the structure and components of thesis/dissertation writing. In addition, this program will focus heavily on developing a focused research question and organization of the literature review with an analysis of how the research question guides other components of the thesis.

    Start Date: 12 December 2021

    End Date: 16 December 2021

    Mode of Delivery: Face to face

    Program Objectives: Students who complete this course will have a strong understanding of the structure of the thesis/dissertation. Additionally, students will exit the course with an understanding of

    1. How to construct focused research questions,
    2. The difference between a review of literature and a literature review,
    3. Primary and secondary sources,
    4. Similarity and plagiarism, and
    5. Summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting and when to do each.

    Eligibility

    Graduate Students who will be registering for Thesis Research hours for the first time in the winter semester are eligible to register for this course. This course has limited seating (max 10 students). Additionally, this course will be taught in English.

    Instructors

    The instructors for this course are Dr. Mary Newsome, Assistant Dean for Graduate Learning Support, Office of Graduate Studies and Ms. Mounia Zidani, Graduate Writing and Research Specialist, Graduate Learning Support, Office of Graduate Studies.
