    Masters of Science in Gas and Process Engineering

    The Master of Science in Gas and Process Engineering is a challenging and rewarding program study for a higher degree. The main aim of the Master’s degree program in Gas and Process Engineering is to prepare highly qualified engineers of gas and petroleum technological processes with profound knowledge of chemical engineering, petroleum production, gas processing, oil refining, and interdisciplinary subjects who would be able to apply research methods to the sustainable gas and Process development. Graduate from our program will be capable of taking a leading role in the design of processes and products, and the operation of different hydrocarbon and gas processing plants in Qatar and the region, through their transformation into diverse products for national, regional, and international consumption.

    The program will offer a unique opportunity for students to progress and specialize in areas related to chemical engineering and gas processing from up to downstream operations. In addition, it will be a niche area of specialization that will help in satisfying the need for industry and research institutions in this area of specialty.  This proposed graduate program aims to provide students with advanced academic education, technical training, and research experience. The curriculum and research will be centered on gas processing and related industries and in addressing the local challenge associated with their operation, management, and contributing to the development of relevant technology. A distinctive and unique feature of the program is the emphasis of research projects and thesis in areas marked as national needs such as gas processing systems engineering, solar energy induced reaction, catalysis, LNG, GTL and process simulation and optimization, corrosion, and flow assurance. Graduate students will be guided by faculty and work together to contribute to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in these areas.

    The Master‘s degree program in Gas and Process Engineering provides students with comprehensive education and engineering tools needed for the solution of future challenges, for putting forward proposals for the improvement of gas and petroleum technologies, and for work in an international environment. This wide range of applications include:

    • Production of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for different applications
    • The use of natural gas as domestic and industrial fuel, through its transport by pipeline to and through the belt of the population centers and construction of an adequate network and distribution;
    • The processing of natural gas (or other sources of hydrocarbons), through the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and other similar processes, for the production of different liquid fuels (gas oil, gasoline, etc.) and many other chemicals, which can feed other Industries such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, toiletries and cleaning, fertilizers, pesticides, polymers, and plastics, etc.

    The curriculum of Gas and Process Engineering Master program is designed to benefit both practicing engineers and those contemplating pursuing a research-oriented career.

    Potential Careers:

    Masters in Gas and Process Engineering can do research, technological, expert, advisory, and managerial work in gas technologies, oil refineries, oil fields, gas processing, petroleum and petroleum product terminals, scientific institutions, chemical processes, chemical laboratories, or continue in doctoral studies. On acquiring managerial and practical experience, they can work as executives in the petroleum business. The degree will enhance prospects for potential employment in Governmental bodies, national and international industries located in and outside Qatar as well as with service and utility providers among others. Also, potential employment opportunities exist with consulting companies and research institutions.

    Program objectives
