    MOOCs

    In fully online self-paced course(s), student(s) set their schedule and deadlines as they move through the content from their own place, on their own time, at their own pace and path.

    • SPOC: SPOC is an online course with no instructor and/or student interaction, whereas lecture materials and presentations are to be viewed at home or outside of class.
    • MOOCs: MOOC is an online course with the option of free and open registration, a publicly-shared curriculum, and open-ended outcomes, typically with no instructor and/or student interaction.

    Qatar University (QU), represented by the Vice President of Academic Affairs Office, signs an agreement with edX to deliver digital learning and online education in a series, starting with three subjects, Qatar History and History, the Human Beings in Islam and Arabic for non-native speakers.

    MOOC 1: Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers

    This course offers the basics for starting essential conversations in Arabic via engaging videos that feature native Arabic speakers and numerous interactive learning activities.

    MOOC 2: Qatari History and Heritage

    This course provides a broad knowledge of and an in-depth insight into the history of Qatar from its days as a society based on pearl diving and maritime trade to its development into a traditional Arabian Gulf sheikhdom and then a modern state. Included in the curriculum is an extensive discussion of Qatar’s cultures and traditions stemming from its pre-modern maritime and desert societies. The last aspect covered is contemporary Qatar and its global role as the world’s wealthiest country.

    MOOC 3: The Human Being in Islam

    This course is an exploratory journey into the topic of the human being (insān) in Islam. It focuses on the nature of the human being, the constituents of the human being and how Islam approaches them, their relationship to the higher objectives of their existence, as well as the importance of instructing about the essence of the human being and their purpose in the civilizational act.
