    What is Course Design?

    Course Design or Instructional Design is the process by which learning theories and design models are applied in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of learning resources and experiences. These learning experiences and resources include online/blended courses, instructional manuals, video tutorials, simulations, etc.

    It carefully considers how students learn and what materials and methods will most effectively help them achieve their academic goals.

    Instructional design is essential to the development of high-quality, inclusive, and accessible digital education.

    How our Team Support?

    We work closely with faculty members to support them redesigning their courses. We further assist and support faculty with developing pedagogically sound strategies and materials to employ evolving information technologies in the delivery of QU’s educational programming. We provide them need-based personalized assistance; conceptualize and create engaging learning interactions; produces and tests rapid design prototypes; and evaluates instructional material effectiveness.

    The specific tasks and responsibilities of our team will include but not be limited to:

    • Design and develop online/blended courses for QU colleges and departments.
    • Design and develop courses for QU flagship projects (e.g. MOOCs)
    • Give consultancy/coaching for QU colleges/departments/faculty members to build online courses/training or to transform curriculum/curriculum component/courses to online/blended ones.
    • Provide consultancy services to faculty on adopting the appropriate pedagogical approaches and on developing their courses.
    • Promote a culture of instructional design by providing online training and certification on Instruction Design related programs.

    How Can you Benefit from our Services

    You are a Qatar University faculty member/staff, who is entering the terrain of digitally enriched learning and/or fully online learning and want to improve the quality of course/training delivery, through applying digital pedagogy or/and implementing engaging learning in online/blended environments, you may take the following steps:

    • Get the approval from your department/section that your course/training may be transformed to blended/online.
    • Provide a letter from a pedagogical committee at your department/section that the scientific content of the course/training was approved.
    • Send an official request to DLOE (contact us)
    • DLoE will evaluate your request, if approved, it will be assigned to one of our Instructional Designer and he will contact you to start the process of Course/Instructional Design.
    • The process of Course Design takes 4 to 6 months to be completed.
    • Finally, your course will go through a Quality Matters evaluation process, which will take one month to be completed.

    According to the specific needs of each project, the ID team will; conceptualize, design, develop and deliver learning resources and experience as required by the DLOE. ID team will also provide training and support as 'architects' of the learning design process, guided by ID principles and Qatar University Strategies.​
